Denver Mayor Michael Hancock has already made big improvements to the city of Denver and continues to work with the people to make things even better. During his State of the City Address on July 11, Mayor Hancock broke down what’s already been accomplished and the goals for the near future. Accomplishments that included creating 60,000 jobs in Denver, extending more international flights to DIA, and becoming a national model for being an efficient and growing city. While poverty, homelessness and unemployment are all still major problems, the Mayor has high hopes for the future. With plans that will grow the affordable housing in Denver, create job opportunities for the homeless and provide more cheap and energy efficient ways to travel, the future is looking bright for the city of Denver.
Ink Monstr was honored to be invited to the Mayor’s State of the City Address, and was even more humbled by the mention of the shop and the things that we are doing to help improve the Sun Valley community that we call home. We’ve been lucky enough to hire 3 people from the neighborhood and in partnership with Sun Valley Community Coalition and The Sun Valley Youth Center , we are able to hold events like Denver Days, where we give back to the community that welcomed us in.
Mayor Michael Hancock created Denver Days to encourage communities to step out of their homes and get to know each other through block parties and neighborhood events. On August 6th, our annual Denver Days block party will flood our street. With local artists, musicians and businesses, we come together to create an event that’s fun for the whole family and will provide the resources that these families need to succeed, including school supplies, food and clothing. Sponsors like Red Bull and Pizza Republica will also join us providing food and structures to keep the party going.
We’re are still looking for supporters to help us put on this amazing event and also fulfill the needs of the people in our community. If you are interested in donating to the event check out our GoFundMe page to see exactly how your money will make a difference. We are also starting a campaign to purchase school supplies for the youth of Sun Valley so that they have the tools to learn and grow and become world changers themselves.
